06/22/2020

Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann advised that on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 2152 hrs. Cass County Deputies along with Murray Fire and Rescue responded to a one-vehicle injury accident in front of 2514 Murray Rd., in the Beaver Lake area.

William Mason Baber (19, of rural Union) was eastbound on Murray Rd. at a high rate of speed.  A Cass County Deputy had observed the vehicle several minutes before traveling at a high rate of speed, but was unable to turn around due to traffic.

Baber's 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix failed to negotiate a curve in the area of 2514 Murray Rd.  Baber's vehicle ran off the south side of the road where it struck a culvert.  After striking the culvert the vehicle became airborne, flying across the driveway at 2514 Murray Rd.  Baber's vehicle landed on the east side of the driveway.  Both Baber and his passenger, Shain Nemetz (20, of Nehawka) were able to exit the vehicle on their own.  Murray requested ALS assistance from Plattsmouth EMS.

Nemetz was transported by Plattsmouth EMS to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for a possible hip injury.  Baber was transported by Murray Rescue to Nebraska Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.  Seatbelts were not in use.  Alcohol is believed to be a factor.  Incident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
