On December 10, 2023, at 2:42 pm, a tragic accident occurred in Eagle, NE prompting rushed responses from Cass County Deputies, Eagle Fire and Rescue, Cass County Emergency Management, and the Nebraska State Patrol.

Whit J Richards (2 years old, of Eagle) was riding a small toddler bicycle west on E Street. The accident occurred as he entered the intersection of South 6th Street and E Street. A Chevrolet Tahoe being driven by a 76-year-old man, also from Eagle, was traveling north on South 6th Street and struck Whit J Richards.

Despite the efforts of Whit J Richards' father and several bystanders who attempted lifesaving measures at the scene, Whit was transported to a hospital in Lincoln where he was later pronounced deceased.  The investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing however, alcohol has been ruled out as a factor.
