08/30/2023

Sheriff Robert Sorenson advised that on Tuesday 08-29-2023 at 5:58pm Deputies of the Cass County Sheriff's office responded to a 911 call of a suspicious person at 12209 12th street in Cass County. Deputies were notified by property owners that they had cameras which showed persons in a silver Hummer vehicle with a trailer had accessed the property without authorization. Deputies arrived and located an un-plated trailer in the driveway which did not belong to the property owner. Further investigation determined that the trailer was reported stolen just hours prior from the Bellevue Nebraska area.  Deputy was still on scene towing the vehicle while another deputy was in the area watching for the suspect vehicle to return. The suspect vehicle returned to the area around 7:10 pm and contact was made via a traffic stop near 12th and Church road. The vehicle matched the vehicle in the property owners video and a consent search was completed on the vehicle. Deputies located the plates of the stolen trailer in the back seat of the vehicle and the owner/ driver of the vehicle Vincent James Cerny (47-year-old male from Omaha) was placed in custody. Further search located Burglary tools and a large knife which Cerny was unable to possess due to being a Felon. Cerny was booked for Felony Theft by Receiving over $6000, Felony Possession of Burglary tools and Possession of a dangers weapon by a prohibited person. Cass County Sheriff's office is working with the Bellevue Police department on this case as the vehicle was stolen from their jurisdiction.
