Cass County Sheriff Robert Sorenson advised that on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 2:57 p.m. Cass County Deputies, along with Plattsmouth Fire & Rescue responded to a three-vehicle accident on Hwy. 75 just north of Hwy 66 in the southbound lane turning lane to turn east onto 8th Ave. First vehicle contacted was white 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by Wayne V. Ackley (66 of Plattsmouth). Ackley stated he was attempt to slow down and turned into the turning lane. Ackley thought he was pushing on the brake pedal but did not slow down fast enough. Ackley ran into the back of a blue 2019 Ford Fusion driven by Kathryn Bessmer with passenger Timothy Bessmer (64, 65 of Plattsmouth). Kathryn stated she was stopped waiting for the light when she was hit and then her car hit a blue 2003 Chrysler Sebring 20E421 driven by Richard Ellington (73 of Plattsmouth). 

No airbags were deployed. Kathryn and Timothy Bessmer were transported to the hospital. Ackley was check out and driven home. All vehicles were driven away from accident scene. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
