Cass County Sheriff Robert Sorenson advised that on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at 1652 hrs. Cass County Deputies, along with Nebraska State Patrol and Greenwood Fire & Rescue responded to a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Hwy. 6 just west of Church Rd., in front of Baker's Candies. Mandy M. Hernandez (42, of Elmwood) was westbound on Hwy. 6 in a 2007 Ford Freestyle, waiting to turn into Baker's Candies. Geraldine C. Frank (88, of Greenwood) was westbound on Hwy. 6 in a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue and struck the rear of Hernandez's vehicle. The collision pushed Hernandez's vehicle further west along the highway. After the collision Frank's vehicle ran off the north side of the road, coming to rest on an adjacent hill. Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Frank was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene. Hernandez was transported with non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Crash is still under investigation
