The Nebraska State Fire Marshal's office advises on March 25, 2023 an autopsy was performed on Jess Ray Hunt (58 YOA). of 170 3rd Street Greenwood, Ne. Hunt's body was located in the March 23, 2023 residential fire at 170 3rd Street, Greenwood. Next of kin have been notified. The Nebraska State Fire Marshal's office is in charge of this investigation and the investigation is ongoing any additional information will be released by the Nebraska State Fire Marshal's office.

Cass County Sheriff, Robert Sorensen advised Cass County 911 Center received a fire call at 10:52 p.m. on Thursday March 23, 2023 at 170 3rd Street. Greenwood, Ne.  Greenwood Fire and Rescue and Cass County EMA were dispatched. Waverly, Ashland, and Murdock Fire and Black Hills Energy were summoned for mutual aid. The residential structure fire resulted in a fatality. The State of Nebraska Fire Marshalls investigation is ongoing. No additional information is available pending investigation.
