Iowa vehicle pursuit ends in crash at the toll bridge in Plattsmouth

Cass County Sheriff Robert Sorenson advised that on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 1737 hrs. Cass County Communications was advised by Mills County, IA Communications that a pursuit was heading to Cass County. Cass County Communications was then advised that the vehicle being pursued had crashed on the Nebraska side of the Plattsmouth Toll Bridge. Plattsmouth Fire and EMS were requested and paged to the scene. Glenwood, IA Rescue also responded.

Mills County, IA Sheriff's Office had originally attempted to stop Creighton Paul Catlett (27, of Council Bluffs, IA) in the Tabor, IA area when he fled. Mills County Sheriff's Office, Fremont County, IA Sheriff's Office, and Iowa State Patrol were involved in the pursuit throughout Mills County. Catlett eventually fled westbound on Old Hwy. 34 in a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado. When Catlett crossed the Plattsmouth Toll Bridge at a high rate of speed, he failed to negotiate the sharp left turn towards the toll booth. The pickup struck an embankment, coming to rest against some small trees. Catlett was able to exit the vehicle on his own, where he was detained by Mills County Sheriff's Office.

Catlett was transported by Plattsmouth EMS to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for injuries sustained in the crash, and also possible narcotic ingestion. At this time charges are pending in both Mills County, IA and Cass County. Contact Mills County Sheriff's Office for further information regarding the pursuit and other aspects of their investigation. Cass County Sheriff's Office is handling the crash investigation. Crash is still under investigation. Airbags were deployed. Seatbelt use is unknown at this time. Catlett's condition has not been released by Nebraska Medical Center as of this time.
