Train vs. vehicle accident Waverly RD. and 12th St.

Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann advised that on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at 0857 hrs. Cass County Deputies, along with Murray Fire and Rescue responded to a vehicle vs. train collision on Waverly Rd. at the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, east of 12th St. David A. Cook (55, of rural Murray) was eastbound on Waverly Rd. in a 1992 Ford pickup when he failed to yield the right-of-way to the northbound Union Pacific train. The train struck the passenger side of Cook's vehicle. Cook's vehicle was pushed off to the west side of the tracks a short distance north of Waverly Rd. It took the train nearly 1/2 mile to come to a stop after the collision. Cook was transported by Murray Rescue to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha with serious injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The crossing was not equipped with automatic warning devices. Charges are pending
