Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann advised that on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 10:44 p.m. Cass County Deputies, along with Plattsmouth Fire & EMS responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision on Bay Rd. between 6th St. and Linder Lakes.  Robert W. Benoit, Jr. (61, of rural Plattsmouth) was eastbound on Bay Rd. in a 1998 Chevrolet pickup when he crossed the centerline. Miles V. Poppleton (15, of rural Plattsmouth) was westbound in a 2011 Jeep Wrangler. Poppleton attempted to take evasive action, but the two vehicles still struck head-on. Benoit was pronounced dead at the scene. Poppleton was transported by Plattsmouth EMS to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for evaluation. Seatbelts were in use. Crash is still under investigation.
