Semi and a pickup truck injury accident at Highway 50 and 34

Cass County Sheriff, Wm. C. Brueggemann advised that on Friday, April 29, 2022 at approximately 11:20 a.m., Cass County Sheriff Deputies along with Weeping Water, Avoca, Manley, Elmwood & Louisville Fire and Rescue, Cass County EMA, NDOT and State Patrol responded to an accident involving a semi and a pickup truck at Highway 50 and 34.

A white Ford F350 Super Duty owned by TH Construction Company driven by Royce Stephens (58 yoa) of Macedonia Iowa was traveling south on Highway 50 when he struck a semi-truck traveling east on Highway 34 owned by Hirschbach Motor Lines driven by Philip Kozak Jr. (65 yoa) of Avon Park Florida.  Both vehicles sustained severe damage with the semi-truck coming to rest on its side on the shoulder of Highway 34.  Both drivers and a passenger Denise Kozak (63 yoa) were transported by Weeping Water Rescue to CHI Bergan Mercy Hospital for observation.  Three emergency tow services over an 8 hour period were used to transfer the load of Hams from the damaged trailer to another and remove debris from the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
