Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann advised that on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 6:56 pm. Cass County Deputies along with Plattsmouth Fire & EMS responded to a one-vehicle injury accident on southbound Hwy. 34 and Hwy 75 at the Bay Rd. exit. 

Cass County Communications advised that just prior to the crash Sarpy County had received reports of the vehicle driving recklessly at a high rate of speed. James C. M. May (51, of Cocoa, FL, possibly living in Bellevue) was southbound on Hwy. 34 /75 in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.  Witnesses on scene also reported May to be traveling at a high rate of speed.  May attempted to exit the highway at Bay Rd, cutting through the safety zone and narrowly missing the exit sign.  May lost control of his vehicle, nearly striking another vehicle. May's vehicle spun and continued off the west side of the exit ramp. May's vehicle continued down an embankment before rolling and briefly going airborne. May's vehicle came to rest on its wheels. 

May had to be extricated from the vehicle.  May was transported by Plattsmouth EMS to Nebraska Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.  May was cited & released for DUI 2nd Offense before being admitted into the hospital.  Seat belts were in use.  Investigation is complete.
