Disturbance and suicide statements results in Civil Protective Custody

Sheriff William C. Brueggemann advised on Tuesday March 1,2022 at 3:40 a.m., Cass County Sheriff Office Deputies responded to Manley on a report of a domestic disturbance. The caller stated she and her boyfriend  of Manley had gotten into an argument and that boyfriend behavior was scaring her. Caller advised boyfriend had access to a handgun and he had left the residence in a white pickup pulling an orange trailer.

Deputies had contact with caller who advised boyfriend had been drinking and boyfriend left the house. Deputies had contact with male party by telephone who made several suicidal statements and fired off six shots out of his truck while on the phone with deputies.

            A short time later the boyfriend drove past the house at a high rate of speed and deputies attempted to get him to stop, but he fled the area. Deputies followed and initiated a felony traffic stop of boyfriend's vehicle at Hwy 50 and the Manley Spur. The male suspect was found to be in possession of a .38 cal handgun and was under the influence of alcohol. Male suspect was taken into Emergency Protective Custody and transported to a mental health facility for observation and evaluation.
