Stolen Vehicle recovered after a pursuit on Webster Blvd.

Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann advised on Wednesday April 2, 2020 at approximately 3:50 p.m. Cass County 911 Communications dispatched a broadcast of a possible stolen vehicle that was northbound on Webster Blvd. from Plattsmouth.  A Cass County Sheriff Office Deputy located the vehicle, a 2017 Ford Focus, northbound near Webster Blvd. and Haswell Drive. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle driver refused to stop and the deputy initiated a vehicle pursuit. 

The vehicle failed to negotiate the turn from Webster Blvd. onto northbound Hwy. 75, when the driver lost control, entered the ditch and collided with the embankment, coming to a rest, with front end damage.

The two occupants fled on foot but were apprehended in a drainage culvert underneath the interchange. 

The driver was identified as a 16 year old and the passenger was identified as a 18 year old, both of Council Bluffs, IA.  The 18 year old male was treated at the scene for a possible leg injury sustained while running from officers, but refused transport.  The 16 year old male was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Criminal Mischief, and Unauthorized Use of a Propelled Vehicle.  The 18 year old male was charged with Obstructing a Peace Officer.  Both parties were cited and released to guardians.

A Cass County Sheriff Office Deputy sustained a minor injury to his left shin.  Deputy was treated at the scene by Plattsmouth EMS.
