Intoxicated Driver in custody, after colliding with vehicle after a police pursuit

Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann advised that at approximately 9:06AM on Saturday, April 24, 2021 multiple callers contacted the Cass County Sheriff's Office about a BMW that was driving erratically traveling westbound from 274th and Highway 34. Cass County Sheriff Office Deputies responded, observed the vehicle, a blue 2016 BMW 535 drive onto the shoulder and then turn north onto 226th Street. Deputies attempted to intitiate a traffic stop in the area north of Highway 34 on 226th Street. The BMW ran from the traffic stop southbound onto 226th Street and began traveling eastbound on Highway 34 at a high rate of speed. Deputies began pursuit and observed the BMW to be driving at a high rate of speed and passing in no passing zones. The BMW then struck a gold 2017 Lincoln MRX Reserve and came to rest in the south ditch to the west of 250th Street. The driver and sole occupant, identiifed by his Nebraska Operator's License as Dean Cummings was taken into custody by deputies without further incident. Cummings was treated at the scene by Eagle Fire and Rescue and released into deputies custody.  Due to the accident happening as a part of a pursuit Nebraska State Patrol was contacted to investigate the crash. Cummings was arrested for Flight To Avoid Arrest, DUI, Refusal to Submit to a chemical test and Driving under Revocation
