Cass County Sheriff Wm. C Brueggemann advises that on Thursday October 28th 2021 at approximately 6:02 AM, Cass County Sheriff's Deputies, Greenwood Fire and Rescue, Ashland Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a vehicle versus train accident at 226th and Highway 6, Greenwood. While enroot, all units were advised that the occupants had self-extracted from their vehicle. Preliminary investigation indicates that a Silver 2018 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Brian Schuster, 48 of Ashland  was driving southbound on 226th Street when Schuster drove around a road closed sign, jumped the closed train crossing as the arms were coming down, and came to rest on the south track when his vehicle was struck by an eastbound BNSF train. Schuster and his wife Chelsea, 48 of Ashland were transported to CHI Saint Elizabeth for further evaluation. The investigation is ongoing.
