Accident with home results in DWI arrest & Charges

Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann advised on Sunday October 18, 2020, at about 2:35 a.m., Cass County Sheriff Office Deputies were dispatched to a call from a homeowner in South Bend, Ne, who reported a one vehicle rollover accident, vehicle's right side resting against the house, damaging several panels of siding.  

Upon deputies arrival, it was determined a Blake Schmidt, age 23 of Colon Nebraska was the operator of a black vehicle. The Schmidt vehicle had been westbound on Highway 66 entering into the village of South Bend, when the Schmidt went off of the roadway, colliding with an electrical pole and snapping the pole in half, vehicle rolling at least one time, coming to a rest on its passenger side against the residence. Ashland Fire and Rescue transported Schmidt to Bergen Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Ne. for treatment.

Schmidt was placed under arrest and is lodged at the Cass County Corrections / Jail in Plattsmouth. Schmidt is charged with Driving under Influence Alcohol (60-6,196)
